Dairy Products, Philippines Third Largest Ag Import

The Philippines imports virtually all of its dairy products, especially milk powder, as domestic production cannot meet the country’s dairy demand of nearly 3.0 million metric tons (MMT) liquid milk equivalent (LME) per year, according to the National Dairy Authority (NDA). Total imports in 2020 are projected to drop due to dampened consumer demand caused by the COVID-19 induced economic slowdown. Dairy imports in 2021 will likely increase marginally as the local economy recovers and purchasing power improves. Major suppliers are New Zealand (37 percent), the United States (31 percent), and Australia (5 percent). In 2019, the Philippines was the sixth largest market for U.S. dairy products by value at $273 million. Read the full report from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service HERE.
